I wanted to change the thermal fuse on my Maytag Model #LDE8200ACW, but I can't figure out how to open the top of the dryer. Several websites state that the top swings open, but don't say whether the top swings towards the front or the back.

If you don't know where the fuse is, how do you know it is bad? anyway, start by removing the front. the fuse is mounted on the blower housing at the bottom. What kind of trouble are you having? Wont start, No heat? Fuse # 306604 the fuse being bad will cause a no heat situation but not a no start problem. Other sources of a no heat situation could be thermistor, open timer contacts, bad motor switch, broken wire or breaker trip. Oh, once you get the front off the top will be held down with 2 screws. one on either side of the dryer apron. The front is removed by removing the two phillips head screws at about 4 - 5 inches up from the floor on the front panel. tilt the bottom toward you and it will drop off. A couple of wires will still be attached to the door switch so be careful.

The ones I have seen just have spring clips holding the top closed, but you have to remove the lint screen and the two screws attaching the lint screen holder to the top before you can pry the top up and back out of the way. But like another responder said I think the thermal fuse is located behind the machine under the back cover...Good Luck...

Most likely the top swings up and towards the back.

I don't have one but most are the same. You have to disassemble the back of it first (where the knobs are). Then once you do it then the top part should swivel up so it can be removed. Hope this helps.
