What can I do to stop this bad habit of taking everything seriously in life?

I care abt. my grades a lot and each time I have a B, I get so frustrated..I'm afraid my grades will keep me out of med school..but being a physician has been my dream for so long..

oh I'm planning to apply to a med school, and my GPA is very important.

I take other's negative opinions very seriously also..I guess I care too much..

I'm very sensitive I guess...

Put things into perspective.
If you live to be 120 years old, what is that in light of eternity?
So the most important thing in this life is to be spiritually ready for the time you will spend in eternity. The rest is just details.

Well, as far as your grades go, though your self inflicted stress could cause you health problems later in life, they may be the fire you need to succeed at achieving your current goals.

When it comes to taking others negative opinions too seriously, I would just try your best to take opinions with a grain of salt. Listen to it, then store it away somewhere. There might be some truth to it, but you have to decide to what extent, if any, you need to listen. Sometimes when people point out your faults, it is because they are frustrated and their irritation with you is amplified by their own issues. :) People don't say negative things unless they are feeling bad about something themselves. :)

Good luck! :)

i used to be the same way. then my friend died in a car crash a month after her 16th b-day. she never had a boyfriend, never went to a concert, never had kids, never even went to an 'R' rated movie, she just studied so she could go to college. it made me ask myself, what is it i'll regret most when i die (which could be in 5 minutes, u never know), will it be the time i failed chemistry class or the times i passed on hanging out w/friends. which will hurt me most, the times people doubted me or the times i doubted myself. ever since the day she died, i try to keep these points in the back of my mind:
1. be who u are the people worth impressing will be impressed by that.
2. always appreciate the small things, like how it feels to walk outside on a summer day and feel the hot sun
3.anytime something bad happens in my life i think 'will i care about this in a week, a month, a year, ten years?' and i find i never care as long as i thought i would.
i think these things made me a happier, more successful person! :)

So, say you ace the tests, get all the As, get into med school, survive it all and become a doctor...

Here's my question: Having lived your entire life for the achievement of the single goal of becoming a doctor, what kind of doctor will you be?

You may provide the most technologically innovative care, but will you be prepared for the HUMANITY of your position?

There is more to being a good doctor than science.

A perspective"

A philosophy professor sat at his desk.
On the desk before him
sat a quart jar,
a box of golf balls
a box of gravel
a box of sand
and two glasses of water

As his students came in,
they took their seats,
gazing quizzically at his desk.

When the class began,
the professor rose
to place golf balls into the jar.
Upon filling the jar,
he asked, “Is the jar full?”

His students assured him,
“Yes, the jar was full.”

He poured the gravel into the jar
Shaking it
until all the spaces
between the balls was full.
“Is the jar full?” he asked.

With some hesitation,
the class concluded,
“Yes, the jar was full.”

He poured the sand into the jar
Shaking it
Until every little space
was filled .
“Now, is the jar full?”

The class laughed nervously.
“Yes,” they assured him,
“the jar was definitely full”

The professor poured the two glasses of water
into the jar.
“I want you realize,” he said.
“That the jar is your life
And the golf balls
are those big, important things
in your life.
Your family,
your health,
your children,
the passions of your life.
The gravel is your possessions
Your house,
your car,
your job.
The sand is everything else,
the small stuff

If you put the sand in first,
there will be no room
for the golf balls.

Take time to play
with your children.
Get a medical checkup.
Do those big important things.
There will always be time
to sweep the house,
or fix the disposal
Look after the golf balls.
Set your priorities.
All the rest is sand.”

One student raised a hand
“What does the water represent?”

The professor smiled and said,
“There is always time to have
a couple of drinks with a friend.”

The reason to go to school is to learn. Grades are the opinion of the professor, and are less important than what you really know. If the tests are of the matching, multiple choice or true/false type, they are the result of your choosing the professor's wrong answers from his correct answers and are even less an indication of how much you understand or really know.

For memorization of words, which is among the most important of skills, use flashcards. Or the cuecard program that is available free online. (jusrt google cuecard and download it).

For mastering concepts, study with one or more fellow classmates.

properly, the two relatively. i think of there are some issues that are meant to be taken exceedingly heavily, although this is nice to have a humorousness. i'm certainly the form of individual who makes use of humor as a coping and protection mechanism, even (that would ask your self some human beings right here, for the reason that i've got been accused of being a type of "takes each little thing too heavily" variety of human beings at Y!A). I make jokes especially circumstances in annoying circumstances to lighten the temper and cheer human beings (alongside with myself) up. every person who knows me in actual existence will inform you that i'm a great goof who likes to giggle and make human beings giggle. I do think of that throughout lots of cases, laughter is the final drugs. I even have confidence there are certainly irrelevant cases for joking. i think of that portion of existence is understanding whilst this is okay to be humorous and whilst it is not, what forms of humor are appropriate at what cases, and which jokes are in no way okay to make.

sometimes it's good to take things seriously. Your grades, for example, are one of the many things that you SHOULD take seriously. However, if you think you are going overboard, just relax. Lie down and just clear your mind of everything. I do yoga and this helps me, but if yoga is not your thing, try something else like listening to music or a sport. Chess works for me too, but only temorarily. Try something and see if it works! If it doesn't try something else.

I was like that at one time......while in college i made A's and B's and you know what? The folks that made C's graduated too and i thought ...what the hell did i bust my butt so hard for? Cause they are getting the same degree, but anyway.....rarely do employers look at your grades to decide if they are going to hire you or not....it depends on many things......yes grades count...but just pass the class and don't drive yourself crazy over it
