You don't need to buy expensive cleaners for this, there is a simple solution to this problem, just fill your bucket half full of hot water and add one cup of White Vinegar and mop or sponge depending on where the cat urine is then afterwards clean with dishwashing detergent about 1/4 cup to half bucket of water and sponge then rinse, the cat urine smell will be gone, simple and effective for pet accidents, you won't even know your cat had an accident. Also after you have cleaned and removed the urine smell to stop the cat from resoiling you can spray the area with colonge; cats hate the smell of perfume and won't go there again. Good Luck !

The problem is that if they are old it is sometimes too late to get rid of the stain as the urine can have the effect of bleaching the carpet. Vax do an animal carpet shampoo product. Also urinegone or urine off (snappy product names!). Websites where you can get both of them below.

We found that the only thing that really works is to act quickly. Use loo paper or better still, a carpet shampooer to absorb or get as much as you possible can off. Then apply product and use a scrubbing brush to get it thoroughly in to the carpet. Then suck it off with the carpet shampooer or absorb with loo roll.

The Problem with cats is that they like to return to the same spot and any lingering smell will attract them to do it all over again. One of our cats would not stop going behind the TV. We eventually had to put a stool on top of the spot so he couldn't physically get there and leave it for a month and then he seemed to forget about it.

You can use a combination of two things if removing the carpet is NOT an option.
1. Go to Sam's Club or Walmart and buy ODO-Ban.
(This is the solution that most vets use to clean and disinfect.) Follow the directions on the bottle for pet/urine.) This Odo-Ban doesn't remove the stains, but when you saturate the carpet, it will disinfect the carpet and remove the smell.

2. At most stores, you can buy a spray called Spot-Shot. This will eliminate the color on the carpet. One can doesn't go very far, but it does work pretty well.

Make sure you crawl around and find all of the "Spots" to eliminate the smell completely.

Go to a pet store, (PETSMART is my favorite) and check out the products they carry. There are several that break down the enzymes that are causing the smell. If it is in carpet, you may have to pull it back and pour it right on the floor so it can soak down as deep as the urine is. I'm the proud owner of a herd of geriatric animals who are all getting where they can't hold their pee for ten seconds straight so I'm keeping the manufacturers of these products in business. They really do work. If your house is hot and dry like most are in the winter, cover the area you have treated with a plastic drop cloth so it doesn't evaporate before it can soak in good. Good Luck and God Bless

Before you buy a cleaner/odor eliminater, check to see if the urine stain has gone through the carpet padding, to the floor, if you are dealing with stains/odors in carpeting. If the urine has gone clear through to the floor, you need to rip up the carpet & ditch it. Personally, since the stains & odors are old, they are there for good & you can't eliminate the odors or stains. Warm temps will make the odors worse. If it was a fresh pet stain, I'd recommend "Spot" as a good cleaner.

Pet Fresh foam spray made by Arm and Hammer is awesome for getting rid of the smell, and I haven't found anything better than Spot Shot for getting rid of stains in carpet (someone got red wine on the carpeted stairs of my house and Spot Shot took it right out). Good Luck!

A cat came into my cottage and peed in 2 different rooms. I bought the washing liquid (for washing machines) and covered the areas in this. I left it overnight (with a towel on top). The next day I spent hours rinsing out the washing machine liquid. And it worked!! Was hard work, but the only thing that I tried that actually worked.

make a past of bicarbonate of soda and rub in to area after cleaning with normal cleaner for the surface, this will get rid of the smell.

P.s. depending on the surface it might not be a stain as such urine can stain.

theres a thing my sister was just talking about at petsmart...its called something like urineBgone. you spray it on the stains and clean, then you use a blacklight to see the ones you missed. you can also pour it into the steam cleaner for full coverage.
