I use a program called SmartFTP which is free, you can get it here: http://www.smartftp.com/download/...
but you can use any FTP program.
Before you start you need to contact your webhost and find out what your FTP address and passwords are. The FTP address usually looks like: FTP.yourdomainname.com and the password will be provided by your webhost.
So, open your FTP program, type in your FTP address and password. You will see a split screen with your server & website files on one side and your computer desktop on the other.
Find your website's root folder, usually called 'public_html' and open it by clicking on it.
Then go your your desktop, find the files/folders you want to upload and drag them across. This is how you upload.
PS. Your webpage files will usually end in ' .html'
So if you are adding a new page, then it will look like: 'page2.html' or whatever you have called it.
If you are modifying a page, then it will have the same name. Your main page is usually called 'index.html"
You can make changes on your computer and drag the new folder across over the top of the old one and it will update.
You can also make changes to your website directly when you are in FTP mode by right clicking on the appropriate folder and select Edit. The page of HTML code will open in a text style editor.
You can make changes and additions then go File>Save, Close and Update.

once you're having an internet hosting enterprise web hosting your web site, then - properly, it somewhat is not strictly mandatory, in spite of the indisputable fact that it is the final thank you to pass information to and from the server. maximum web hosting companies will provide you an FTP account on their server for unfastened once you purchase an internet hosting plan. once you're web hosting the internet website on your man or woman servers, then you definately won't decide on an FTP server, because of the fact you could purely pass the internet content to the internet itemizing of the server, and that they are going to be publicly accessible!

ftp details - ftp.yoursitename.com

you will need ftp software to access your server and these details will let you connect and upload your files.
