There was an article in the San Diego Union-Tribune saying that the gunman's wife sued McDonald's alleging that something in the McNuggets interacted with lead and cadmium in his system (accumulated over a 14-year welding career), and that's what made him snap. She didn't win that suit.

Ultimately, no one knows what made Huberty kill 21 people at a San Diego McDonalds, and likely no one ever will since he was shot at the scene. The only conclusion the investigation provided was that he was not under the influence of a controlled substance when he committed the act.

So, why'd he do it? It could have been that he was fired the week before and was under pressure to provide for his wife and children. Or perhaps he was an undiagnosed schizophrenic. Some say he experienced delusions and distortions of reality. He contacted a mental health facility prior to the massacre, but was never seen. Finally, he could have simply been one pi$$ed off dude. Most of the victims were Latino, so perhaps he was a vengeful, hate-filled racist.

Any way it's sliced, the man obviously had issues. They were just never properly addressed. Tragic.
