I'm always shy and quiet. I want to join the girls' track team next year, but I don't know if I should. The girls' track coach said it'll look good on my college application. I'm scared to join the team because the girls' track team is all black high school girls and I'm afraid that they'll make fun of me for being Asian. I've been racially judged and insulted in my high school many times. I'm afraid they will reject me. I'm also afraid they'll also say that I'm Chinese but I'm not. I'm Vietnamese and the only Asian student in my whole school. (btw, i go to a high school grades 7-12) What can I do to make myself more confident and not be afraid of other people?

Those black chicks will run so much faster than you, maybe you should try volleyball or something.

It seems such as you're an introvert particularly than an extrovert (social creatures). in case you finally end up extremely joyful along with your 5 close acquaintances and enjoy being on your very own commonly, you rather have not have been given something to stress approximately. in spite of the indisputable fact that, in the experience that your "anti-social" character is conserving you from residing existence (going to events, attempting to get a job, etc) then you certainly've gotten Social stress sickness. do no longer hassle with regard to the girl subject, maximum adult men are merely as shy/demanding as you. And while you're nonetheless at college (extreme college, i'm assuming) you will hassle plenty with regard to the form you seem, etc. merely attempt your perfect to construct self belief to talk to human beings, yet do no longer positioned your self in situations which will make you uncomfortable or unhappy.

First things first, if they call you Chinese, don't protest. That's what they want, to hear you upset.

Next, if you join, you musn't quit. If you quit, then they might make fun of you worse. There's no turning back. But track can help boost your confidence so I really think you should go on and try. At least for one season.

I know how it is. I live in a hick town, the one and only asian among a dominantly black community. Yeah...I used to lack confidence as well, but then I joined Cross Country and everything in my life changed. I lost alot of weight for one thing, and because of that I felt better of myself. Because I felt better of myself, then anything my bullies said against me, didn't seem to matter anymore.

Also, this is a chance to kinda redeem yourself maybe? You really need to work hard though. You don't necessarily have to win all the time. (I usually came second to last XD) but with me, everybody supported me for my hard effort, even the people who gave me a hard time in the past. Eventually they thought I was alright and left me alone.

Then comes to the best part, but you really have to train hard. If you manage to overcome those girls who make fun of you, then kudos to you. This may make them even more hostile to you, but wth! You just showed that you were better than them, and they're no better than you. There was this one girl who always picked on me ever since like 1st grade. Then she joined the cross country team 1 year after I joined. I beat her each and every time. She always tried to run farther than I can in the beginning of each race, but then halfway, I always passed her. And the feeling is just great. Afterwards, she stopped picking on me. I could still see that she loathed me, but that was all I needed.

Yeah, join the track team. It can do wonders for you, but you have to make it work for yourself. Whatever you do, DO NOT QUIT. Life will be even more of a hell than before if you do.

I think what you are doing will make you more self confident. Being on the track team will bring you out of your shell having to work with people on the team. Also the other girls will be more likely to stick up for you, sit with you in the lunch room etc, when you are their team mate. good luck.

I think this might be just the thing to help you overcome this, u may find it will really help you gain confidence.
Whatever race, culture, religion, gender or anything else u might be the chances are everyone will suffer some kind of prejudice in their life, it should not be tolerated and it should not hold you back from doing what u want either.
Go for it! you will probably soon be wondering what u were worried about to start with!!!!

I would leave that school and go to a school with a higher asian population, then join their sports team. What kind of stupid parents send an asian kid to an all black school anyway?

What do you expect? When it comes down to it, there is no such thing as racial acceptance, only tolerance and that's up to a certain point. Rate my answer down as much as you want, it will only confirm that it's true. Leave that school, now, before you get physcologically destroyed any further.

First of all, do not be anti-social and on the contrary become more friendly, humble, simple and generous and watch for the change in the other girls' attitude towards you. I am sure that they would become your friends in the due course !

Be proud of your heritage. You're better than they are by not judging them the way you've been judged so take that thought with you and make believers out of others.

jelly, first try an alternative sport, away from school.

secondly, you are special cause God made you that way.

thirdly, whatever sport you do, the main reason you do it should be for enjoyment, not a college application.
