Its nothing more than a marketing ploy started years ago. It is a psychological aspect that is based on the idea if you say 1.99 it registers on the mind as being under 2.00. And it works pretty well, or they wouldn't keep doing it.

Practically everything you purchase is geared to represent a figure that is distorted this way.

marketing to sound cheaper, or it's a clever ploy on behalf of all the charities - cos if it was £10 instead of £9.99 you wouldn't have that 1p to pop into the little plastic dog.

It was done originally like that for when people paid cash, it was to make sure the assistant opened the till to put the money in (and not steal it) and give customer their change. The tills would ting in those days and the shop keeper knew everything was done correctly.

becuze the £.9999999.99/= is not a million
so we have pay £.9.99 not £.10
to made some thing go step-by-step
to save, make money you need every penny

probably to make you think you are getting something cheaper than it actually is, i.e they will say get this plasma tv for under £900, and it will be £899...they aren't daft and they aren't lying to you because its under £900
