Nightlife! The ability to for your sims to own cars is enough to get this EP, but there is so much more. Dates, group outings, restaurants, a reward object that can change life aspirations & turn-ons, new interactions between sims, vampires....it adds great depth and options to the game.
Pets is a fantastic EP too, and it's something you should get eventually, but go for Nightlife first.

sims 2: pets becAuse it seems like it is a more proffesional and they worked on it more. it shows. the game is also pretty fun

Nightlife, it is sooooo much more fun.
Pets is alright, but it just didn't give so much.
