It depends on what state you are in. Minimum wage is different in most states. Usually increases in minumum wage take place over a period of time. You might want to check your states .gov page. It will probably give you details there.

Right now you cannot count on the federal minimum wage going up. Both houses of Congress did pass their own bills to raise the minimum wage - but because they are different, now committees must haggle the specifics out and send identical bills back to each house for another vote. Then the President needs to sign - if he vetoes, then its over.

That being said, and some people have already alluded to this already - some states have raised their own minimum wage regardless of what the federal gov't does. So which state do you live in?

Congress and the Senate have similar bills going through the process of getting approved. Both have the minimum wage going up in increments over an 18 month period. The hang up for the moment is that the Senate bill has tax breaks in it for small businesses to offset the impact of the increasing wages. The new Democratic majority will get this bill passed eventually and minimum wage will go up, it will just have to go through the bureaucratic process

Hopefully never.

But they are discussing it in congress to slowly raise it over a four year period. It is bad to do it mainly because it drives the cost of living up. It is pretty counter productive.

So hopefully never. If you are concered about making more money, go to college or work hard and get promoted.
