I'm trying to quit smoking for my baby! i know i know that is a very go idea. but what my question is, is does anyone know a site i can go and have a free chat room to talk to people who are also trying to quit somoking? I have looked everywhere and every site i go to wants me to give them my credit card number, but i don't want to do that. I just want some one i can talk to 24/7 if i start to crave. so i can stop smoking sooner! my dead line is March 14th and i'm down to 5 maybe 6 ciggs. a day! please help, for my baby's sake!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I wish i could say the same thing. I have tried and tried and i am down to 5 or 6 cigs a day too. I talk to someone on our states quit smoking line, the phone number is 1888-quitnow. They are available 24/7, and will give you free replacement products if you do not have insurance, I am in Oklahoma but they should refer you to your state's phone line. I can't seem to find a free chat room, which is absolutely ridiculous! My doctor also said that after the first trimester you can use the nicotine replacement products. If you have insurance he could even prescribe them for you :) Good Luck to you! I know how hard it is to kick the habit, i wish i would of never started and i feel guilty every time i light up :(

Not sure of any sites.....but I know that I quit 2 days after I found out I was pregnant. It was easy though, because they made me sick. I was lucky.
However, I still have moments when I crave sooooo bad! I dont think there is anything that can keep u from doing it even if u talk to someone.
I did quit about 3 years before I got pregnant too though. I chewed on a straw, and whenever I had a major craving I would pop a cinnamon tic tac in my mouth. This gave me the same type of burn that the nicotine does when u smoke. It worked great for me.
I wish u luck. Its not easy i know, but I am glad ur trying.
Congrats on baby!

It is great that you want to quit smoking, baby or not.

The addiction to smoking will probably take more than talking on the phone or computer to get you over the humps.
So I will tell you something, that you may not know, and it costs money..Not to me, to any pharmacist.

There is an anti-depressant drug called "Welbutrin" trade name "Zyban" that works very well for people who want to quit smoking, In Canada it is by Prescription only, and I am sure it is the same in the US, Go to your doctor and ask about it and if he says it is ok to take when pregnant, get a prescription.

I smoked for the better part of 30 years, the best quit time I had was 4 years, The craving always comes back and one cigarette is the renewal of addiction again.

When "zyban" got legal in Canada an about 7 years ago, I got a prescription, one month cost about $80, but was less than cigarettes, You eat the pills according to directions, you can smoke as well. After one month, I got no effect from a drag on a cigarette, It was the same as sucking on a peice of chalk or a pencil, I only had it for a month, Seven years now, never had a craving. Nothing else ever worked long term for me.

I hope you investigate this, for me and thousands of others it is a god send....Ask your doctor, and get the money to try one month as I don't know the cost in USA

good luck

Yay, you are giving your baby the best gift ever! I quit before My husband and I started to try for our baby. I was shocked at how easy it was for me. I made up my mind and did it. I went on the patch, and wore it for 2 weeks, I started to forget it, so I just never botherd putting it on anymore. My doctor did agree with me that the patch would be healthier than smoking because you only get nicotine. But you will have to talk to your doctor about using when you are pregnant. I wish you all the best of luck. I know you can do it. I signed up for a quit smoking website that is through the canadian government. It didnt really help me, it didnt have a chat line, but it would give you tips and advice each day from now until your quit day. Try it out, it might help you.

Smoking is more than a habit, so it probably will be very hard to quit and even harder to find a website to help you. My advice is, to just go on a regular chat room and talk to people that can just talk/type and maybe they've quit or are trying to quit smoking, too. I hope I've been helpful.

Congratulations. It's a really good idea to have a local 'buddy' to be able to ring up or meet with - someone, either a friend or family member who encourages you.

And if you have to have one, try Tar Bar. It is a plastic filter that fits on the top. It has nothing in there that will harm the baby. Like a patch would. They are at your gas stations everywhere. They come in a pack by the cigs.

Also most hospital are smoke free now and offer free services. A few nights a week.
Congrats hun on the baby.
