As a teacher this is very upsetting. The classroom environment should be a safe place for a student. If a student does not feel safe then he/she will not learn. There are several things that you may do to help yourself. First, read the material beforehand, by yourself. Second, practice public speaking if front of people whom you trust and care for you. (This is your safe environment.) Third, inform your parent or guardian that this teacher is NOT supporting but hindering your education. If you feel comfortable, ask your parent to have a conference with this teacher. Your parent, you, the teacher, and a member of the administration should be present. Let everyone know that the teacher laughed and recommended a physiologist. In Florida this type of recommendation is against school policy. Last, participate in activities that you enjoy. Have fun in high school and good luck!!

You must have gone through some tragic or life-changing event that this issue just sprung up. Try to understand what has happened to you, and eventually this problem will resolve. But in the meantime, don't stress so much about reading aloud. First of all, remember that no one is ever listening or paying attention in class, so they aren't even noticing when you read aloud. I think knowing that takes alot of the pressure off. And also, what should you have to be afraid of? It's only class. It's only reading.

As an opening note: YOUR TEACHER IS EVIL!!!!!!!! When reading, do not look at the class, before or after reading. just focus on the word you are reading. ignore any comments the class makes. you might also want to choose a drama or acting workshop.

Uhh....english teacher is always like that so darn hard on people, it's easy to get over it....just borrow may books (esp. playwright) and just read aloud home when you have the time and put some spirit into your reading.....that's how i get over with reading speech infront of class

That happens to me too, just make sure when your doing reading activities you are paying attention, and raise your hand at other times, cause when you don't do that, thats when they pick on you, to make sure you are particapating.
Otherwise, practice in front of a mirror, or with your family listening.

i hate it when teachers make you do that. it's an indication that they have nothing prepared to teach so to waste time, they get students to read form the book. i think you just need to practice and eventually you'll get used to it.
