it does display the desktop but not my media center

Open Media Center & go through the proper "TV setup" procedures from your PC monitor.

Settings
Media Center Setup
...etc...

Everyone has to do this when a TV is newly attached to the PC :
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/mediacenter/using/setup/default.mspx

After that Media Center will run on your TV .... it's great !

you are able to pass music, video, pictures, and that i actually have self belief television with the Linksys on the spot Media middle Extender. besides the undeniable fact that, you want a living house windows XP MCE computing device to succeed in this. it truly works with A and G networks. i have in no way used to gadget--I particularly don't have any own opinion in line with its use-- besides the undeniable fact that it sounds like could get the activity accomplished.

What operating system?
What graphics card?
what type of connections you are using? (probably s video to scart)
