(But you know, I could make a good case for Warren Ellis and Brian Michael Bendis as his apostles, don't you think?)

Oh no you didn't man !!!. You have that so totally wrong...Moore is no comic book god in my opinion...Neil Gaiman is the comic book God !!! His work is f*cking amazing..his story telling is second to none man. Gaiman's Prophet is none other then Grath Ennis...(creator of The Preacher) ...he took on religion and crafted an amazing story with The Preacher series.
But I forgot about Stan Lee...he was the one a long with Kirby that give us so many classic character today..without Lee..there would be no Hulk, Spider-man, Fantastic 4, X-Men and a bunch of other character that I grew up with and still love today !!!

Alan Moore is the best there is at what he does. Distant seconds would be Frank Miller, Gaiman and .....

no way! there's only one god - the living tribunal of frank miller, will eisner, and neil gaiman. The holy books consist of batman: dark knight returns, a contract with god, and sandman: season of mists.

The field has many good writers. None of them are a god. Frank Miller, Geoff Johns, and Mark Waid to name but a few. It all depends on what floats your boat.

Every generation of comic fans has their faves, and someday there will come along a new artist/writer that will make people turn up their noses at these guys they currently bow down to. Just remember, when you’re bowing down to one guy, you can’t see who’s sneaking up behind you….
