Hi,
It depends on whether you want culture, fun, and the beach, or just culture and fun.
If you need some beach time, then it really has to be Barcelona, and the amazing Gaudi architecture, fantastic nightlife, and great shopping are all bonuses...don't miss an evening at the the Font Magica with some friends, or someone special and a bottle of wine!
If you're not bothered about the beach, but you want some culture as well as fun, then I'd suggest Madrid as you can have a fantastic time, plus make day trips to the great historical cities of central Spain like Toledo (city of El Greco and a Royal city too), Salamanca, Segovia (best Roman Aquaduct anywhere), the former Royal city of Vailladollid, and Avila ...plus in Madrid you have fantastic art museums , brilliant shopping, and great city parks!
For fun, both cities are fabulous, great bar-life, excellent night clubs...
depends on whether you need the beach really :)
If you go to Barcelona this trip, then I must insist you make the Madrid trip at a later date... :)

I'm Spanish (living in Spain) and both cities are beautiful.
Maybe the best to visit is Barcelona, because it have more variety, I mean if you are there for some days you may go to the beach, or visit historical buildings or museums, and it has a really good night live.
Madrid it's really beautiful and it has more historical and cultural places to visit, so, it depends on what kind of tourism you want to do...

Barcelona. It's definitely more of a vibrant city than madrid!

well iv not been to madrid but i love Barcelona , i think its a good spot for a holiday, iv been twice, so id suggest barcelona for you

Barcelona 100% , better food , weather, museums, people, the beach, etc....
