i am a vegetarian (well, kind of, i still eat seafood and eggs) and i havent started my period. all of my friends have, and they eat meat ALL the time. even though i am a vegitarian i still get all the nutrients i need, and i am just barely over wieght, but besides that i am realy healthy. so does me being veggi effect what time i will start my period, or is it just based on genes and your natural start time? any input would be welcome.

Some people believe that the horemones given to cows, chicken and pigs to make them develope faster has an effect on the onset of puberty. This has not really been proven, it is just a theory right now. I remember when i was about11-12 and we all thought it would just be so awesome to start our periods....then it happened! Don't be too anxious to start, you are not missing anything by not having a period, just trouble and pain :) Good Luck

I remember feeling like that too, like for some reason other people perceive you to be less mature simply because you have not started your period yet. But that is just dumb! Like you said, you could be TONS more mature and even years older and not have started your period.

i'm a veggi too (almost 13) and i don't have my period either...but it's about genes and stuff. also look at how tall you are, would you like to be that big when you're an adult? b/c after you have your period you don't grow much more...

no. being a vegetarian has no effect on menstrual patterns. i'm a vegetarian and my periods are just fine. all girls start at different times. dont worry.

i'm perty much vegetarian too.. and you should be as happy as possibly that you havent started (its not the funnest) and it's pretty much based on genes.
