So I have my PC hooked up wirelessly, and then I have my router (linksys) hooked up to the pc through WAN using internet sharing on my lan card. my router should create a wireless network to supply internet and a network to share files. (My complex has provided wireless internet but cant share files bewteen computers, for virus reasons, but I would like to take that internet and create a network)

My complex disabled that...okay what about this..how do I have my linksys router recieve a wireless connection. That way I can relay the connection under a different network to allow the exchange of files and internet.
I have a linksys WRT54G using DD-wrt firmware

I think I understand your question but not sure.

If you connect both of your compuers to your linksys router they will be connected. If you get a wireless bridge and connect it to the WAN port of your router you can then connect the bridge to your apartments wireless and your two computers will have internet access and be a local network without anyone else having access to your two computers.

Linksys makes bridges as most other manufacturers. They just arent as common as other wireless devices.

Man I hope I understood your question correctly. If both computers are able to access the internet using the same router then the connection has been made to allow both computers to communicate via the router. You need to do a few things.
1. Ensure both computers are on the same Workgroup. Through system properties and Computer Name.
2. Ensure both computers are allowing file sharing.
3. Go to My Network Places. Click Set-up a home or small office network.

ok i got you now. You dont have you own connection at home you live in a complex using their internet. You should however be able to run in your my network places "home or small office network" to share files between your 2 pcs. Run it on both pcs and choose the same workgroup name for both (dont use the default mshome) this should allow you to share files but you still wont be using your router. Routers dont pick up wireless signals they only emit them.

The setup you are attempting Modem----Router-----To all your computing gadget's, its genuine. ensure that the cable understanding of your modem is linked at the back of the router in cyber web PORT, no longer in the LAN PORTS. the only concern you're dealing with is Linksys Router is yet to be configured. no longer a concern in the experience that your ISP is a cable Line, jus connect your vista pc to the router (ethernet), on your computing gadget visit command instantaneous and form IPCONFIG now you will see an ipaddress (in case you dont see it, at the back of the Router you will detect a reset hollow, press on it for 30 seconds, jointly as the router is on) for under pressure connection, in basic terms observe down the default gateway handle and form it in cyber web explorer window, that is going to take you to the Linksys Settings internet site. i've got self assurance the username and password is admin (decrease case). that is going to take you to the settings internet site, in the experience that your isp is cable line, in basic terms click on save settings, if its dsl line, there may be an option which says PPPoE, you'll be able to desire to place your username and password (which you will have have been given out of your ISP) . superb of success
