You won't be made fun of for being Irish, but you will have to show proper ID to get into a bar. Carry your passport, because all the big cities require you to show some sort of age verification, and being a foreigner doesn't help the cause. You might stand out a little.

Good luck!

I'm not quite sure what you are nervous about. The drinking or getting "slagged".
All I can say I've seen plenty of people her with shirts that say "kiss me I'm irish". We have Americans here with dark hair and blue eyes and red hair and freckles. They are all still living here, so I do not think you will have a problem.
As long as you are 21, you should be able to drink.
I hope you enjoy your visit here!
Your accent will probably help get you a few female friends while you are here. We American girls love the accents!

There is a bad element no matter where you go and I'm certain you know these areas even in your country. Most of us here are just people that happen to be black, brown, yellow , white and everything in between with all types of hair color and complexions. So believe it or not most Americans are just like you. We have much more in common with each other than what separates us.

I've traveled to many countries and without exception, the people that get into trouble are the ones that think they're somehow better than the locals. (think the stereotypical "ugly American"

Personally, I've never had the least bit of trouble even not speaking the native language during travel. But I'm always polite, friendly and stay away from areas where there seems to be people who have something to prove.

The truth about Americans and immigrants is real simple: if you are white and your English is good, then you will be welcomed with open arms. Of course, if your English were not so good, then you would be treated with suspicion. And, if your skin were any other colour than white, then you would be despised. The truth is the US is still largely a racist nation that will gladly embrace another Englishman, Irishman, or pretty much any other white, English-speaking European. It's the people from Africa, Asia, and Central and South America that get treated like dirt.

Not at all. Most people in the US are of Irish descent, so there's no concern there. Why would you think you'd be hated for being Irish?

There are differences in the TYPES of Irish, though. The ones in the Northeastern US are a bit snootier and wealthy as a whole. Their culture is different from the old settlers in the Southeast who are Irish. The ones in the Northeast are "famine Irish," very recent arrivals compared to the old settlers. I'm half Cherokee, half Irish and don't like the Boston Irish one bit. Just a warning.

You will not get mocked for being Irish. I am an American, and would never dream of doing that! Don't worry about it! I think it is actually pretty awesome. You won't get mocked for being Irish, and if you are, they really have no business with you!
Hope you enjoy your stay.
