. When you turn your computer on start tapping f8 until an option screen comes up .Use your arrow button to select safe mode. When safe mode comes on go to the control panel and click on your system icon. Then click on system properties and click the advanced tab. Down at the bottom where it says start up and recovery click settings. This brings up the start up and recovery page. In system failure uncheck automatic restart. After that you will be able to find out what caused your fatal error. You can all so do a system restore while in safe mode.

First, do you have a floppy in the drive when you turn the computer on? If you do the computer will not start until you take the floppy out of the drive. How long does the Compaq logo stay on before you try hitting F1 or F10? Some computers take a little while to boot up, I know mine does. I just turn it on and walk away until I know that it has booted up completely. I know that probably does not help but I am trying to think of things to help you out.

Hi. Check the keyboard cable first to make sure it's tight. Try another keyboard (borrow it) and see if you can boot. Press the delete key after the power button to see if the BIOS screen comes up. Try putting the Windows CD in the drive and booting from there (the hard drive may not be working.) Good luck!

your computer starts; your operating system won't boot. You need to verify your boot sequence; verify cmos sees your hard drive. try to boot off a floppy or a cd. if this works, (floppy or cd) then save your data by removing the hard drive, adding it as a slave to another computer and backing up all you want. Put your HD back in and restore or reload op sys. network the two computers to get your data back.

What have you done to your computer recently? Maybe there is a virus on it. I don't have a Compaq, but sometimes if there is a floppy disk in there, it won't turn on.

Need more information. Does it make any beeping noises when you turn it on? Short beep is normal. Any other beeps (e.g. series or short/long beeps or combination of both) indicates an error in the boot sequence. (laptops should make no beeps)

TROUBLESHOOTING:
check the ram(memory chip), try to remove it then put it back on its place. maybe its loss of connection..try to clean it first..b4 putting back...be sure u put in a proper location, anyway there is a guide..u see the notch on a slot..that is the guide of mmory slot..AFTER THIS..
try to turn it on.. and if still the same..
uf u have 2 memories..try to remove the other 1, then try to turn on..if still dsame.. remove the 1st memry that u tried, then try the 2nd mmry..still no improvement..
