You could probably fit a 20 long (30 1/4 x 12 1/2 x 12 3/4) or a 29 gallon (30 1/4 x 12 1/2 x 18 3/4) on their based on the size. But another important thing to consider is the max weight the stand can hold. Fish tanks are heavy things and you don't want the stand to crack and your tank to fall. A 20 long generally weighs around 225 lbs when full of water and a 29 gallon is around 330 lbs. If your stand cannot hold that amount of weight, then you'd be better off getting a proper stand, or putting the tank on a sturdy end table.

A couple would fit:
Type: Approximate dimensions:
30 gallon “breeder”36 x 18 x 13
40 gallon “breeder”36 x 18 x 17
50 gallon 36 x 18 x 19
65 gallon 36 x 18 x 24

Check with store/manufacturer, as sizes can vary slightly between companies, but these are most common for the size stand you mentioned.

Also make sure the stand is sturdy enough for the weight of the water (8+ lbs per gallon, plus gravel, rock, decoration, etc.) if you intend to use it for fish or turtles.

That's a tough question to answer. You would think that you could fit the biggest that will fit on the stand, HOWEVER, you have to remember that reptile stands are not meant for aquariums. Aquariums filled with water are hundreds of pounds heavier than one that is not filled. You will have to see how much weight the stand can handle, before you make your decision.
