Honestly i think it depends on what kind of owner it has. If you dont watch your hamster in the ball and neglect the size and how long your hamster has been in there then no it isnt humane.

But if you are like me and watch over your hamster while he is playing and exploring. making sure that he doesnt get close to stairs and making sure that he has the right size of ball and making sure he hasnt been in there over 20min then i say its fine. My hamster loves exploring my room and getting excersize is good.

My friend/old babysitter who used to raise gerbils when she was 16 always reccomended it. She is now a vet and she says the same thing as what i said.

properly, my wager is he's hiding and knows you're observing so he can no longer return out purely yet.. i've got in no way heard of this taking place for a protracted volume of time before, generally hamsters finally do come out of hiding because of the fact they get hungry or thirsty. Set his cage close to the place he's at and pass away the door open. make certain it has foodstuff and water. He might sneak in there to get a snack and are available to a decision to take a snooze. you will possibly be able to capture him that way. in any different case, purely shop attempting to coax him out with foodstuff. additionally, on condition that he's so new and would not understand you, it will make the pastime much tougher because of the fact he would not have faith you yet. good success. submit an replace in case you get him out. i'm curious. additionally, does no longer hardship approximately him being too hungry purely yet.. he probable has some foodstuff saved in his cheeks and he's ingesting on that. :)

My seven dwarf hamsters are perfectly happy with their exercise wheel, a toilet paper roll and an occasional romp in a hamster ball. I am careful to make sure they are in a secure location when they use the ball so they can't fall down stairs or anything that will cause injury. Really, they like the exercise wheel best, though.

The balls are kind of sad because the hamster is locked up in a tiny ball and forced to roll around in it.. it is purely for human entertainment, IMHO.

If you want your hamster to run around a larger area than his cage, then make a rodent pen. It will isolate an area for him to run and play. A standard wheel is good, too.

This is the safest way for the hamster to explore the room and surroundings. Hamster balls are fine to use but only for half an hour or less at a time. They can run in one several times a day. They need cleaning after each use too. They come in 3 sizes, one for dwarfs and small mice, one for Syrian hamsters, small rats and adult mice, and one for ferrets, larger rats. Get the one right for your breed of hamster. You still need to watch them. We had one hamster hit into a wall and the lid broke off. We now use a piece of tape to double secure the lid.

My hamster seemed to love his hamster ball when he was alive and he lived a ripe old age. it stopped him getting fat and, alternatively you could get a old drawer and put some mesh on the top and let him run around in that. Keep him away from cats and dogs either way...

Many many hamsters have died when they have been left in a hamster ball.

They are fine as long as don't have cats too tease them , but it should be OK just make sure you keep a close eye on it when rolling all over the place it can crack open .
