My old laptop will not start. I can reconfigure, but do not want to lose my pictures. Is there a means to copy JPEG files to another storage?

Option 1>
look for an adapter for the 2.5 inch laptop harddrive to enable connecting it to a ide cable (just like a desktops 3.5 inch drives) they are inexpensive and very avaliable. attach the adapter then install the drive as a secondary hard drive in a desktop, boot the tomputer, browse to the new drive letter, and copy the desired data to the desktop, or preferrably a writable data drive (cdrw)
Option 2>
an external drive enclosure for a 2.5" drive. This will allow you to mount the laptop drive in the enclosure, it then becomes a portable storage device (usb) that you can use for storage with any computer...Again, readily avaliable and very affordable.

When you turn the PC press the delete key and look for the first device.....the hard driver. Then press the enter key, it will give a choice of devices to be use as primary booting. If the windows disk (The program disk is already in the CD driver) it will ask you at the beginning of the page to press any key. You just do that, it will appear as you are installing Windows since the beginning, then it will aks you if you which to restore windows o you wan a new copy. You will chose to repair windows. A possible way is to do a windows repair from the original windows disc. This will overwrite only files that windows uses and leave others such a pictures alone. Insert your windows disc and start the laptop...it will give you an option to repair the OS.

easiest way is to use a bootable cd like knoppix and a usb thumbdrive or external harddrive

knoppix info: http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html

Click on download, find a nearby download location and download the huge file that looks like this:
KNOPPIX_V5.1.1CD-2007-01-04-EN.iso

now download BurnCDCC™ from http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/utilities.html to burn the ISO file to a cd, it's freeware and knows how to make the cd the right way.

pop the disk in your computer and follow the guide here:

Try rebooting and hit f8 numerous times while it is rebooting. When the screen comes up use your arrow keys to select "Last Known Good"
