I'm going to assume the ant's are "eating" your home. If so your biggest investment is worth paying a professional to fix and get a guarantee against future infestations (re-treatment)...by the time we notice carpenter ants or termites. the hive is established and the damage is well underway.

Call a professional. You need to be sure they are Carpenter ants, and you need to protect your home. Carpenter ants can do significant damage. Baits only work some of the time. Over the counter bug sprays are dangerous.

Ants become a nuisance when they enter homes. Instead of spending money on costly pest control, you can get rid of ants by removing the food source and using soap water.

Leave a mixture of icing sugar & baking soda in their trails. They will find it and take it back to nest. In a week, no more ants.
Mixture like 1 teaspoon of each combined together and in dry form. It won't bother the dog or cat either should they decide to lick it off the ground either.
