It is possibly, but highly unlikely.

I highly recommend "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" for every woman to fully understand how ovulation works.

When you are on your period- you are shedding the lining of your uterus and disposing of it, and the unfertilized egg. If you have a normal 28-30 cycle, ovulation (your very fertile time) usually occurs 9-14 days from the first day of your period.

If you are not ovulating, you cannot get pregnant. Any woman who has activtely tried to concieve knows this.

There are rare rare times when you can get pregnant while on your period. (For example- if you ovulate twice in one month- very rare, but it can happen. If your family has a history of fraternal twins, double ovulation may be more common in this situation.)

Again- highly unlikely, *BUT* it could happen.

Pregnant During Menstruation

Yes, you can get pregnant on your period, but it's not especially likely. Your most fertile days are mid-cycle.

Here is more input and advice:

* It depends. If you're really heavy, the sperm can get washed back out. Moreover, it depends on when you ovulate. Every woman has a different cycle.

* Unless you are charting your cycles and you know when you are ovulating then you can potentionaly get pregnant anytime. It's unlikely to get pregnant at that time, but it not a good idea at anytime to have unprotected sex.

* It's actually highly unlikely, because of the hormones involved to bring on your period are not conducive to ovulation, of course there is always a possiblity, but it is VERY unlikely.
