You can get a very similar program that is 100% compatable with microsoft word at www.openoffice.org It is completely legally free and is a complete package of software applications similar to Microsoft Office. It has equivalents of Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access. It is compatable with all Microsoft program files and will create documents in the Microsoft formats if you tell it to.

I use something called Abiword. The format is exactly the same as Microsoft Word. Not sure if anyone else could open a document that I sent them unless they had Abiword too, I've never tried.

you could either find someone who has the cd to let you install it, but that's against the law. the only way to get it for free is to get Word Viewer. It's a program by microsoft that ONLY lets you read and print previously-made Word documents.

Yes but you might just have to buy it like everyone else. It cost around $200.00 and that is just part of the expense of having a computer. I thought most everyone had that on their computers anymore.
