I've always had the talent to act, and now I want to get started doing the real thing, problem is I don't know where to start. Help me?

Audition. The first play I ever did was a musical called "Rags". I auditioned and got a speaking/singing role.
Since then I have been taking acting classes from the Community College.
I have done community theatre, professional theatre and some film work.
It is great that you are so talented and as they say: "You need to learn your craft". So take classs, audition and study. There is lots of good stuff online to start out with.
Just go for it! Have fun and "Break a leg"

The first thing that you need to do is prepare an audition piece. One that is contemparary, one that is classical. Make sure that they are parts that YOU could get casted as. Don't read as "Big Daddy" from "Cat On A Hot Tin Roof" if you it doesn't fit you. Also stay away from Arthur Miller plays. The man is a genius but EVERYONE has done his work to death. ESPECIALLY in NYC!!!

Then after that, go and meet wiht photographers and shop around for headshots. While you may think the more you pay the better they will be, this is not always the case. Make sure that you sit down and talk with photographer. The more they know you, the better they can do their job. A good headshot should portray you and nothing else. Remember; you are selling yourself so don't wear something that is distracting or pose. It should be natural.

I hope this helps. I learned all I know from studying at The New York Film Academy. But you can also buy the book "Breaking Into Acting For Dummies"

Take acting classes. Call the community theatre in your city and ask if they can recommend acting teachers. Also, ask the Community theatre if they can use you as a volunteer (you may get a role if you become a volunteer.)
