Why is petco and petsmart soo cheap when it comes to fish tanks. When you buy the full set from them they give you the worst quality items for a lot of money. For example, they give you blue lighting(kills unique fish coloring example.. Flower Horns), they give you a minuture heater and a sucky filter. On top of that they give you no gravel, no thermometer and no aditional tank items. Pretty much they are selling you a 30 gallon tank set at 120 dollars When the tank itself costs 30 dollars, the heater 7, the filter 25. I think this is a rip off and we should kill petco by throwing chicken at them till they explode

Ummm... could it be because they can increase the price of the tank by selling you a "kit" or "complete setup"? And then have you come back and buy bigger and better from them when you find out that what they gave you the first time around wasn't good enough?

Or, (option 2) you buy and use what you got in the kit, along with the 35 fish they told you were okay to put in at once. They all die, even if you stocked reasonably. "Well, it must have been something YOU did, or your water. Wanna buy some more fish?"

Either way, you're spending money and they're making it!

Who (besides MM) says they're Pet- not-so-Smart! (I caught that comment too!) ;)

Best to build your own set-up, get what you want, not the stuff they can't sell. And, PLEASE, don't start with the chicken again!!!!!!!!

I got a 30 gallon tank for $84 at PetsMart, and the staff advised me on other stuff for my goldfish including a better bio filter for $30 some dollars and some nice gravel for about $12 total. I don't need a heater tho-- I dont see how they can package for every type of fish. I think if you buy things separately instead of in those sets, you are better off and will get what you really need for your fish. Those prices are cheaper for the most part than what I have seen elsewhere, though I could have gotten a cheaper tank that wasn't as nice to my eye. If you pay more you can probably go to a better place -- I don't know about the more expensive sets, or even Petco. I have noticed at Petco that the employees don't seem to know anything about the animals, and advise tanks and habitats that are WAY too small.

I don't know about that, maybe you get ripped off if you buy the kit, but at the petsmart where I live, you can buy only the tank and stand at a discounted price. I just got a great deal on a 56 gallon column and stand. I think it all depends. You can't say a blanket statement like that and expect everyone to agree with you. The petsmart here even takes good care of their fish, but I still won't buy them there, because of their misinformation on adult sizes of fish and tank size requirements. Basically, if you don't like it, don't shop there, or write a letter to their corporate office.

you ought to attempt to persist with a organic cycle as a lot as accessible. this suggests no longer having the ordinary on 24/7. Fish don't have any eyelids and desire the darkish time to get a damage from the ordinary. also, in case you'll upload stay flora they prefer down time to boot. perfect wager could be to placed your ordinary on a timer w/ 12 hours ordinary and 12 hours darkish. Granted the solar would not shine for precisely 12 hours on a on a daily basis foundation yet a 50/50 chop up is reliable sufficient. in case you want to manage to have a good time with your tank at evening or in case you'll have some nocturnal creatures to boot as day fans, get a lowlight LED that simulates moonlight to leave on at evening. the ordinary isn't magnificent sufficient to annoy the fish or flora yet is sufficient that you'll benefit from the tank even as the numerous ordinary is going off. you are able to placed the LED on it truly is own timer or you are able to only go away it on each and each of the time.
