Over the last five years my parents have put me in mental hospitals eight times.
If I told my mother to screw off.... she would have the police pick me up and I would be put in a mental hospital. She would tell them that I was not listening to her.

I have been diagnosed with:

-ADD
-Anxiety Disorder
-Depression
-Borderline personality disorder
-Bi-polar Disorder
-Bio-Schizo Affective disorder
-Body Dismorphic disorder
-Schizophrenia
-Obsessive compulsive

My mother told them that I was jogging with weights in a backpack. So they diagnosed me with a mental illness.
-She told them that my apartment was a bit messy.... so they diagnosed me with a mental illness.

I sleep fine. Always have. I don't go "manic". Never have. I've never harmed anyone. I don't hallucinate.... don't think anyone is out to get me... I have pretty good self esteem. I don't hear voices... never have. Don't have anxiety or depression

So you tell me.... is psychiatry just COMPLETE BS ?

lol... it sounds like your parents are using it for their own entertainment... or dramas

I think you should worship truth and tell them open and honest what you think about them,,,,

It will hurt them, but it will teach them things about themselves they do not want to know.....

find an art form to express emotions,,,,

take no drugs... anti-depressants and the like they limit your ability to feel emotions,,,,

psychiatry is not complete bs- though YOUR DIAGNOSISES may be. Many doctors over diagnose patients with psychiatric disorders... because they get paid per diagnosis that they treat. If you are diagnosed with all of those disorders, you probably have a few persciptions as well? That is because the persciption companies pay the doctors for writing the persciptions as well. maybe you should seek out another therapist on your own to give you a true diagnosis- and show your mom that what she is doing to you is not good for you- in fact it is more harm than good. If you have your own apartment i assume you are an adult, and based on that maybe you should put some distant between your mom and yourself that way she will no longer have the authority to have you sent to a hospital.... i am sorry the system has screwed you. take care and good luck

I am not sure about Psychiatry... but Counselors are usually social workers... and their Code of Ethics states -

Value 1.02 Self-Determination
Social workers respect and promote the right of clients to self-determination and assist clients in their efforts to identify and clarify their goals. Social workers may limit clients' right to self-determination when, in the social workers' professional judgment, clients' actions or potential actions pose a serious, foreseeable, and imminent risk to themselves or others.

Unless you have harmed yourself or others then you have a good case...

All those diagnoses seem quite odd, some overlap even...

At the same time, I think that you should go with what they say and trust them. Why would your mother want to punish you in this way? Why would a doctor?

If you are presenting signs of Body Dismorphic Disorder and you are jogging with weights in your back-pack... c'mon dude, that is what the deal is. And you can die from that.

Deal with the day as it comes. Diagnoses are just a way for people in the medical field to communicate fast about you, the whole story should be shared with a person you really honor and trust and think can understand you.

Hope starts with trust.

I particularly have had party over the years to hunt psychiatric help because I particularly have bipolar disease and placed up hectic pressure disease. I particularly have in no way harmed absolutely everyone both. i do not hallucinate etc. i do not flow manic, yet wade through a touch bit mania each so often, which for me, has been rather threat free, and the record of indications is going on... the psychiatrists who've treated me were diverse human beings, and that i have got here about to love some more suitable than others. (own decision). i visit't imagine that jobbing with weights in a backpack is an illustration of psychological ailment.... human beings became tossed into psychological hospitals again contained in the "olden days" even as they were misunderstood... no longer because they were strolling. you look to have self belief you're rather frequent, so i visit't understand why you've been institutionalized 8 cases. i understand what psychological ailment is about, and that i dont' imagine psyciatrists robotically INVENT diseases out of the clean, blue sky.... Is there more suitable to the tale you're literally not concerning? Your tale is obscure.... by technique of how, schizo affective disease and schizophrenia are in no way co-clinically determined.

Psychiatry is a medical specialty, combining aspects of psychology and biochemistry.

Yes, some (too many) who practice that field have their pet theories, and try to shoehorn anyone they can into a specific diagnosis to support those theories.

And as a whole, western medicine and western psychology suffer from the problem that their diagnosis and treatments are based primarily on symptom identification and suppression, often without ever attempting to find and cure the cause. This is one of the reasons why a person can be labeled with so many different diagnoses -- it's all based on a symptom checklist, rather than causal analysis.

But the situation you describe is the exception, rather than the rule. And it sounds more like your mother having a control-fit and attempting to manipulate you.

I believe there are legitimate mental illnesses. I also believe there is a tendency in the US to over diagnose almost everything to the point of characterizing 'normal' as an as yet unidentified psychological problem. This answer will be of no practical use, but I believe it to be accurate.

If your parents are abusing the system, then maybe you should seek emancipation from them.

I would need more information to judge your case (and I don't suspect that you are telling us everything).
