The www is still there, but it is not needed with today's browsers. Most are set up to assume that you are accessing a www address, and the default setting is for the computer to "add" (even if not seen) the www (and the http://) to the address typed in.

You CAN uncheck the auto fill for www and manually type in the www if you like, but you will need to ALWAYS type in the www in this mode.

Nothing happened, the www doesn't need to be put in front of a web address, for example www.yahoo.com is the same as yahoo.com. But, if you are refering to a subdomain, that is another story. A subdomain shouldn't have www because it is part of the website. For example, video.aol.com or music.yahoo.com are subdomains, and they do not need www.

it's not always necessary to have one. it's just an assumed thing these days, but if you are trying to save space than just say yahoo.com that saves 4 characters that usually don't matter.
