Please help me find some information on an antique cigar box?

Question

I got a cigar box at an antique shop, which they didn't know anything about this box. I didn't pay too much for it. I blown away by the hand curved details on the box. It seems so old and on the bottom of box reads HECHO A MAHO HONDURAS C.A ( Used a red hot metal to curve the above words)
I just want to learn more about this box or is there a history or story behind the curvings.

They come from Honduras... These cigars are rather common and not the best quality you can get.

Cigar boxes that are of any value are usually Cuban and usually really, really old to be considered valuable. Although some vintage Cuban varieties are rather expensive just because they are rare.

Most wooden cigar boxes are branded. Nothing new... (or old in this case)

It is probably worth what you paid for it, or possibly a little more? (probably about $15.00 to $35.00 US depending?)

Is there a date anywhere on the paper label?

I would say your best bet would be to look up the history of the company itself. I personally don't know much about it myself so my answer is a guess at best.

Unfortunately... this is the very reason why people take and turn them into those cheesy little purses... I believe that destroys them but knowing that they are not all that rare is no reason to take a piece of art and turn it into trashy fashion!
