I have run into so many questions where someone was infected with a virus because they were told to install limewire, which opens the door to hackers, as well as making your PC a target for malware. So i'm wondering how many people have experienced issues after being told to download this software...
Most importantly, isn't against community guidelines to suggest this software to download copyright material?

using any p2p software can get you a virus if you're not careful as for the back door to hackers no not at all you're pc's in danger if you're using it with no firewall that can let hackers in not using limewire I've been using it for years with no problems
when you download with limewire don't download anything that can carry viruses like program files with a .exe file extension this includes games and setup programs mp3's and video are generally safe
Oh and make sure you have an up to date virus scanner as well as a firewall and anti-spyware/adware installed this applies even if you don't us limewire

I not use Limewire or Bit-Torrent.
I found I can download faster direct from a Web-Site and I not looking to get free Music or Movies.
Example; When I downloaded my Ubuntu Linux I did a direct download and it took about 1 hour to get. Then I used the Torrent approach and it took 3 hours.

I have never gotten a virus and we use limewire a lot. The biggest threat seems to be in downloading programs, not music or movies.

Personally, i feel limewire is a horrible download service, i used to use it until i realized how badly drawn out it is, I got one small virus from it once, but not a big deal. As long as you pay attention to what your downloading, and don't download porn, you'll be just fine.

yeah, i agree with you about the community guidelines. i asked a question once about where i could download some software program, and I was reported because apparently it was about illegal downloading, and yet the thousands of people on here who always say "use limewire" get away with it! i've tried using Kazaa and morpheus because they're supposedly good, and my computer was infected with spyware right after installing. i also DON"T recommend going to bearshare.com. after going to the website alone, my computer was infected with spyware.
