Call me old fashioned, but I rather like the idea of two parents, Dad & Mom. It's wonderful when children are surrounded by extended family, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins also.

Has anyone taken a close look at the village lately?

call me old fashioned, but in nearly all of humans history the community has raised the children,

I say where the hell are the grandparents and uncles and aunts that foster a childs innate need for security,,, why is America so depressed with only 1 in 5 people having a close friend, people are friendless and family-less. We have lost an important part of humans childhood psychological development...
It does take a village and this nuclear family crap is finally showing its vices.anti-depressants, suicide... and the like.... the new incorporated america will have a time solving this dilemna

This is a previlege if a child has more then two peoples around him for looking after.....Grandparents, uncle, aunties are blessings to have aournd you when you are a child......well i m talking about my society and i know this idea is taken to be absurd in West......But the feelings are totally different when a child grows up with a full family compared to just parents or single parent ! A child feel himself/herself more secure with more peoples ! not exactly living in the same home but its better if relatives live at close distance......everyone play part in making up the personality , they love him and they would think better about him......These relationships are blessings and i think one should be given the right to enjoy it fully instead of living alone and just thiking of one own self..... would sound funny to my westren fellows but i have experienced it and i loved it ! Life is too short and one should enjoy it fully .......the peoples we have around us are for us actualy and for me the most beautiful gift of God is 'close relatives'!

Please Don't snatch this right of a kid from him/her...

Only if you don't want any say in the values your child grows up with.

No, it takes pitchforks to raise a child

No. It takes a mother and a father. The damn village people think they have replaced fathers.

They haven't. Fathers have abdicated their roles. I spend most of my time keeping the village idiots out of my home, thanks.

Yes it does, unless the family lives on an island that has abundant natural resources.

Absolutely. It takes a network of teachers, caretakers, doctors, friends and family.

Not if you're a fundie - the church and home schooling put those little rose colored blinders on.
