There are heaps of easy to learn guitar songs available on the internet. Be careful of taking on recommendations of songs that don't have a strong guitar element in them, sure you might be able to play them easily but chances are they don't sound anything like the original song!
Check out guitar.about.com for their easy guitar songs, they've built up quite a collection and have some explanations on how to play some of them.
At http://www.instantguitarist.com/ you can sign up for a free guitar pack which includes a 4-part lesson on Greed Day - Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) it's not the easiest song in the world but it sounds so good when you can play it.
The 4-part course contains photo's, diagrams, explanations and a full video tutorial on the song, so you can't go wrong.
Good luck,

Most rock and roll is just 3 chords, not a putdown, I LOVE it. But it is just a variation on a very simple theme. You might not want to try to master any Van Halen solos or anything from the 80s till you have the hang of it. Strummed songs (like much of the Eagles) are easier than finger picking songs (like James Taylor). I think in fact, that some of the early Eagles would be very easy....Take it Easy, Tequila Sunrise, etc. John Cougar/Mellencamp (under both names) sounds easy enough...stuff like Little Pink Houses and that time and Jack and Diane. Pink Floyd's The Wall stuff, like Goodbye Blue Sky, Mother, and Wish You Were Here (I think from Dark Side of the Moon), is simple. You can also cut your teeth on old old country like Hank Williams Sr.
If you want to set your sights a little higher and try to follow along with fingerpicking, you might try some Chet Atkins and some James Taylor or Clint Black. They pick and they are masters at it. Getting to a place where you could do anything like these guys, even simplified, would be a benchmark in your playing.
You might want to listen to some blues, the old stuff like BB King, and then their students, Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and the Edge too (U2). These guys are all geniuses but their talent isn't in flying fingerwork, it is in getting the most out of each note. They play minimally and with lots and lots of soul. So they could teach you to develop the depth of your playing without overwhelming you with notes and chords as a beginner.

Here is an easy song that you can learn to play in a few hours. it is the first song that I learned and it consists of only 4 chords. it is "Horse with no name" by America. The chords are easy to master. You just have to listen to the song a few times to get the rythem down and the transitions between them. You can look up the guitar tab on www.ultimate-guitar.com.... And you can reference the chords on www.chordfind.com.... Happy learning!
