I've waited tables for 10 years in ohio but I'm moving to the west coast to find a job in my field. Serving is just in case, until I find the right job. Someone told me you need a servers license, though. How do you get one?

I've never heard of any state requiring a license to be a waiter/waitress, but if they do, it would have to be something ridiculously easy to get. Maybe the owner or bartenders need some certification, but the people waiting tables? How would all the aspiring actors survive then?

Yes, you need a license to do anything. Even sleep, brush your teeth and go to school. Also it is a requirement to be beautiful in the awful state of imaginary dreams. I would suggest you move to the opposite coast and save yourself the heartache.

Whoever told you that was pulling your leg. You don't need any kind of license or certificate to be a server in a restaurant in California.
