my son needs to write a letter and i dont think i have the program plz help

You can download openoffice for free on the internet. It offers their version of excel, pps, word, and the rest all for free and completely legal.. best of all you can open Ms products in open office work on them and then save them again in ms format.

You should have Wordpad.
Its under Programs>accessories>wordpad.
There is also Notepad , Wordpad has more features.
Its OK for simple things and does give you some text formatting ability. Save as RTF to preserve any formatting done. (rtf is rich text format)
