Does anyone know around what age i can switch my son to medium flow nipples? He is 2 1/2 months old and is currently on the slow flow nipples. thanks

I changed my baby's nipples to a medium flow at 2 months. Here is how to check. Try a medium flow nipple and see if your baby is taking it. If he is okay, then switch it. If he is not latching, bringing his tongue out or if his mouth is filling with milk too quickly than he can swallow, then wait for some more time. Try again after 10 days.

When your son drinks, if you see him trying to get more milk than comes out, try on the medium flow. Personally, I think he is a bit young and you should try to ween him off of slow flow in a month or two if not more. If you are sure he is ready and that he can handle more of a flow, you should try it with caution and see what happens. Every baby is different. Good luck. And that first answer was ignorant. It depends on the bottle - some recommend swtiching after 1 month if you are not breastfeeding also (The Avent) but others say six months (I believe the playtex ventaire say this) Ask your child's pediatrician what he/she thinks is best.

You can switch the nipple when he seems like he's not getting enough milk. If you switch it and milk leaks everywhere, and he chokes it's too soon.

6 months is usually about right sometimes 5 it always depends on your baby u will know he whine and let u know its not coming fast enough
