Having worked with the homeless, I have to say the majority would not - what they would do, though, is take up petty crime.

Many of the homeless have emotional and mental problems that make employment a spotty thing, at best. Not supporting them would be a cruel thing to do. True, there are a percentage of them who are nothing but chronically lazy, but you can't lump all the homeless into that category.

A growing segment of the homeless are the elderly who find, after working hard all their lives, they can't support themselves in retirement. This is something we should all be ashamed of, and is a poor reflection on what we value in this county.

A lot of them DO have jobs. I live near New London, CT, where there's one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country, but hunger and homelessness is still a big problem. Many employers only pay minimum wage, which is about half of what the average person really needs to make a living.

Some of them would. However,I do not believe we are supporting the homeless as you say.And while I know that some of them are just drunks and addicts, others are just in a hole so deep that it is impossible to climb out.And I don't know about you but alot of people out there are just barely hanging on and it would not take much for them to be homeless.I would MUCH rather support our homeless than the illegal aliens who we support!!! Most homeless people are American citizens and are more deserving of our help.

Many homeless people have jobs. They just don't make enough to pay rent. I don't see them getting that much support anyway. Otherwise they wouldn't be homeless.

Most homeless people NEED the support and food that we give them! Really, if you were an employer, would you look at some random person who has nothing to show, would you just hire them on the spot?! I'm not saying we should go on appearence alone, but honestly, that's how it works. Do you really think they don't try, or that it doesn't hurt their pride to have to beg help?!

A lot of the homeless are off their meds and cannot function. There are many reasons why this may not work. They are homeless for a reason. Good question, though.

probably not. most homeless have mental or emotional problems, etc. which keep them from getting or holding down jobs. what we should do is stop supporting illegals and single mothers who choose to continue to breed despite lack of income or paternal support. if they make it, they should pay to raise it. why should the rest of society take on their problems, you know.

Probably not...homelessness transcends people just being lazy and looking for hand-outs. Homelessness is driven by mental illness and even drug use.

Helping the homeless get medical treatment for their illness or drug abuse is what would help them get a job.

No, already proven the hard core homeless (about 28 %) are alcoholics, druggies and mentally ill.

You said 'homeless' not jobless. How do you know they don't have a job just cuz they don't have a home! Maybe they choose to spend the money on drugs or something like that instead of rent? hmmmmmm? lol
