The 'account review team' means HSBC's account COMPUTER system.

The Computer is programmed to spot 'money laundering activity' - essentially any 'large' (especially foreign) transactions will trigger the Computer into printing an 'account termination' letter.

In theory some human is supposed to check that the Computer has got it right, however their Admin Department is in chaos - the staff are major p*ssed off and no longer care enough to check - something to do with making all the experienced staff redundant and moving the help desk to Malaysia perhaps ?

I had a HSBC account which was closed because i had 3 Direct Debits bounce since the account was opened (by the way i did cancel these but callcentre is in India and didn't process request!)

Tried calling the complaints team as they are based in the UK and they said once account has been closed you can't re apply for 6 months!!!!! Needless to say i've opened another account with another branch!

wouldn't touch HSBC with a barge pole!

i am an international student, they also closed my account in UK with no reason, no credit card and no over draft always more than £5000 in my online saver. it is very outrageous, they have rejected the money from my parents overseas into my account and i couldn't pay the second installment university fee which was £6500, the university deregistered me foe a while!! this is really disgusting that we are spending such money in this country and they are behaving in this very insulting way. i have send more than a thousand email to my home countries students to inform them not to come to UK for study and go to US or Canada instead. they are insulting us here.
