This is my second pregnancy and i remember that my first pregnancy i used to eat a lot of hot dogs, bologna, and ham. Especially ceviche ( raw fish cooked with lemon) i used to eat that practically every other weekend that was my craving. So my ? is did any of you have any problems eating thi foods while you were pregnant or like me did you give in and everythign went fine?

I think they say avoid deli meats cos of listeria/salmonella (I can't remember which).. It really comes down to how the company that produces the meat and the shop that sells it takes care of the food hygiene wise like coverage from flies and the temperature of the fridge. That's why alot of books say not to eat deli meats. With raw meat/fish.. well.. when I was wasn't pregnant I was addicted to ceviche for a whole month and was voilently ill for a whole night. Imagine having that when you are pregnant? It's just something you'd want to avoid.

Don't eat raw meats. especially fish. a lot of deli meats are cooked, but watch what you eat. Do you really want to take any chances, regardless if people here say it's fine? It's your baby looking and in need of you for protection.

I would not eat anything raw because it can carry salmonella or listeria and other things that might be minimally to seriously problematic for you but extremely problematic for your baby. (However, how is it raw fish if it is cooked with lemon?? ;-) )

The reasons for minimizing the consumption of ham, hot dogs and deli meats and smoked meat or fish is that they contain nitrites used in the preservation process. This isn't good for you whether you're pregnant or not, and these should be eaten only in moderate amounts or not at all: http://www.mcleanorganicfoods.com/products/nitrites.php

They may also carry listeria, so reheat them until very hot before eating them in moderate quantities.

I heard about the deli meat that its bad.
But the ceviche I'm sure that it wont do any harm. My sister when she was pregnant with her 1st child ate alot of it and he came out fine. Actually she ate ceviche with all 4 of her kids and there all fine.

I have never heard that you shouldn't eat deli meats. I wouldn't eat anything raw and don't eat a lot of fish.

I never had a problem with it, Uncooked foods might be a problem if the quality is not good. But other than that you should be fine.

Your doctor may insist that you eat your share of vegetables AND FRUITS SO THAT YOU CAN MAINTAIN A HEALTHY DIGESTIVE SYSTEM BECAUSE BEING PREGNANT DOES SOMETIMES COMPROMISE THE WAY YOU TRULY WANT TO EAT...
