Anyone know the TRUE horsepower output of a 426 factory street HEMI? Make a comparison against the LS-6 454 Chevy motor of that same time frame. Both were brutes.

Stay with factory options only. Everyone and their little brother took these motors (engines) apart to put in mechanical roller cams, 10;1 compression pistons, stuck the biggest carb they could find on top and tossed out the factory exhaust manifolds in favor of open headers. Just these little tricks alone was enough to jack up the HP another 100 or so.

Hemi put out some 425hp (underrated) Vs. 465hp BBC, but the Hemi put out more torque.

425 HP however all claims to this says they under reported the actual HP. Mainly due to insurance and possibly federal guidelines used at the time. Many of these motors likely put out more than 500 HP with the dual carb setups. These motors have been made to put out more than 2000 HP in the drag racing rebuilds.

This is what I know, but I don't know if this is the answer to your question.

I know that the 70 Super Bee had a 426 [in³ (7.0 L)] and it had 425 hp (factory)
