for most pc makers, breaking the seal doesn't stop the warranty. the best way to clean the fan is with q tips. slowly and carefully. once you've done all the fans in your pc, get a can of compressed air and blow off the other dust bunnies in the pc. just don't use the compressed air on the fans. it will blow the dirt/dust where you don't want it getting. i hope the fact that i've helped many people try to solve problems by opening the pc, breaking that seal, and finding a major problem, the pc maker still honored the warranty. helps you feel less worried. the compressed air is available at walmart, staples you name it.

Try not to worry about problems that don't happen yet. I am surprised the pc is still under warranty if the fan is that dirty. Maybe if you are so worried and paranoia overwhelms you take it to a repair shop and have something done where they gotta open the case. When you get it finished act all surprised and say they broke the seal and have them back you up with the manufacturer????

Computers are made to be upgraded anyway, opening the cover to see what type of memory is in there is an acceptable thing to do, just because you noticed dirt on the fan and cleaned if, will not invalidate your warranty. It isn't as if you have taken it to bits, don't worry.
P.S. To clean the fan get a can of compressed air and just blow the gunge out.

That's a sneaky tactic. I guess if it's in the contract to stay intact, then your warrenty is gone. Is it the basic mother board fan, or the power supply fan? I take mine apart all the time and clean it with canned air. If the fan burns out, it's no big deal anyway. You can go buy one and replace it easily. I don't know if you know much about pc's, but just don't touch any of the metal on the mother board. Static from your body could actually fry those things.

Don't worry.

First, finish what you started. Make sure to not touch anything unless you have first grounded yourself by touching with one hand the desk or a chair, and simultaneously touching inside with a screwdriver or other metal probe.

Now you can proceed with cleaning the inside, not only the fan but all. Rather than touch and damage delicate circuitry, use compressed air to blow it out. You can also use long cue tips which you can get a the electronic section of your hardware store.

Don't be scared. Talk honestly, don't lie to the repairperson. If they won't help you, find another who will, and don't take no for an answer. Don't be rude, but don't let them beat you out of a repair. All you are doing is cleaning it, for crying out loud.

You may wish to get a second opinion on how to ground the system, as I described above, before you actually do it. The danger is more to the system than to you, so don't be nervous.

Clean it, put it back together and hope it doesn't go wrong, because you don't have a warranty on it anymore. You might have had it longer than the warranty would have lasted anyway.

No need to panic!

honestly there is nothing you can do unless you can replicate the warranty sticker and put that on the computer - as for cleaning the fan, a can of compressed air should be able to do the job.

it is not a breach of your warranty to open your pc case...if that were the case then repairs or upgrades would be impossible by anyone but the manufacturer...this is not a good practice for manufacturers...so i'd say your warranty still is intact
