Where I work, there is a controversy going concerning a child. She said some very inappropriate things to another staff member -- in which I thought were way beyond her thought pattern as a 13 year old girl. (Keep in mind that this girl behaves badly in class too)

After reporting this and having a meeting with her Mother, the situation has gotten worst. Her mother doesn't seem to believe that her child would say such things. As a result, in order to please the Mom, the school officials are investigating whether or not the child was told to say these things by one of the staff members.

I tried to explain to the principle that I witnessed everything and that the child said inappropriate things under who own free will, but the Prinicple believes still wants to do more investigating.

I have a feeling that a situation that could have bee resolved by a suitable punishment will turn into a huge ordeal because the principle doesn't want to deal with it.

I'm a college student who works for an after-school program.

There are other reasons why I want to either resign or transfer to a different department, but the controversy right now it the last straw

What should I do?

Well, if you have been thinking of resigning or transferring to begin with, then I am going to believe that you are not happy with your place at this program. I firmly believe that there are things you can control, and things you cannot control. For example, I had a problem with a job I had once in which the manager was becoming more of a jerk all the time. I became so frustrated and angry, that I was not happy with the job, or enjoyed it anymore. I knew that I could not control his behaviour, but I could control my own. I felt the only way to control my own behaviour was to quit and find another job, which I did. I eventually returned to college and am now working in a field I thoroughly enjoy, and am a much happier and better person.

The bottom line is that you must do what makes you happy. No one can do that for you.

Welcome to the real world of education.

If this is your chosen field, you will be dealing with administrators and principles who are eunuchs when it comes to making a stand.

They're afraid of the political consequences of "making waves"

Take the steps to get a transfer. You want out, but simply resigning, no.Considering how close it isto the end of the school year, don't act in haste.

If you are not directly involved you could try either , but if the girl made comments about you it might look like you quit because they were true.

Transfer.

Why should the little brat stop you working?
