Well this ought to be interesting since Prince Prospero was a character in one of Edgar Allan Poe's short stories called "The masque of theRed Death". In 1964 Roger Corman made a classic horror film called the same. Poe had written the short story in 1842.
The story is set in a semi-mythic Medieval Europe. The corrupt satanistic believer Prince Prospero invites local nobility to his castle for protection of a plague called the "Red Death". Now anyone that was not of nobility or was suspected of having the plague were killed at the front gate by arrows or crossbows. Now as the story goes, Prince Prospero orders everyone in the castle to become involved in a masquarade ball, or "masked ball". While during this ball the Prince happened to notice a mysterious hooded stranger dressed all in red. The prince thinking it might be his "master" satan so the Prince introduces himself but not to his "master" so do speak but to the Red Death himself. This is to remind people that "Man makes his own God or own Devil and that Prosperos soul has been dead for yrs. A detail that belies the self-discription of the Red Death indiscriminate killer in an amoral universe without God or the Devil. So.. here you are an archaeologist that finds his remains..."digging for the truth" huh? Good luck! The Prince dies of this Red Death which to me represents the Grim Reaper only dressed in Red instead of Black.

Shakespeare's Prospero? From The Tempest?

Is the essay for your English class? Do you have any stories by Edgar Allan Poe in your textbook? Is one the "Masque of the Red Death"?

Even if you don't have your book, the story's online at:
http://bau2.uibk.ac.at/sg/poe/works/reddeath.html

It's pretty short, and really good.

And here's an essay about the story, if it doesn't make sense to you:

Pay attention to the quote at the top of the page.

Go to the library and you may find it in the history section and it will detail everything about him. You can also ask the clerk for some assistance. I cannot tell you how he died cause I never heard of him.
