What is with this top contributor thing? I just came back for the first time in about a month... what does this mean? And how do they decide what a top contributor is?

Sweetie,
The best way to explain this is by saying you need to vote for your own answers. I know many people have a lot of e-mail addresses. I already know I have read some sorrowful answers to questions and there are about 12 votes. This is clearly a case of cheating. But I guess all God's children need a vice.

Now if you have time to burn, you can answer a hundred questions a day, that will get you noticed. I would take the yes or no answers. That is a cheap way for a high.

As you can see, I am in the same boat as you. But you and I have beauty; so we don't need the extras that we don't honestly earn.

Means 3 things basically:
1: You answer a lot
2: Your answers are good and helpful, precise
3: You're on the computer too much

You can loose it also, but that's all I could find out. I just got on one day, after not being here for 3 days, and POOF, an orange thingy cluttering up my Avatar.

From what I've gathered, it's the people who use up all of their answers for any particular day in the same category. Every day. That's what I did.

I get a big kick out of the people who say, "I don't know, and I don't want it, either!" The way to remove it is to stop answering questions, or broaden your horizons and answer in multiple categories. If you're not careful, though, you'll earn badges in those categories as well.

Someone said it's for people who use up all their answers every single day. Not true. I NEVER used up all my answers and now I have unlimited answers. I think it's the ratio between question asked, questions answered, your level and number of best answers. That's just a guess though. I could care less about their silly orange box!
