The Empire Strikes Back was easily the best in my opinion. Darth Vader and Luke dueling it out, Luke getting his hand whacked, Han Solo and Leah confessign their love, Hans getting frozen, the eternally cool Billy Dee Williams, the debut of the "imperial walkers", and probably most important is the training session with Master Yoda.

I love that film!

Being an old school Star Wars fan I would say that is a pretty easy answer.

Episode 4: A New Hope

However, I think it is best to split the entire series into the 2 trilogies and then say which is best of each trilogy.

In the case of the NEW trilogy I would say Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith was the best.

Now let's make a hypothetical scenario.

What if all six episodes were reintroduced with updated computer graphics and period true set designs, wardrobe, etc.

I think Episode 4 would still stand out as the best.
