Also, what's the typical life span for a pet store goldfish? I have one that's almost 9 years old...just wondering how long I can count on keeping him.

The oldest goldfish on record was 43 years old and was owned by a couple in England who had won their comet at a carnival. Clearly, they kept it very well and took it out of it's bowl! Goldfish can live for an average of 20-30 years in a large pond setting, but more often the average lifespan of an aquarium goldfish is 15-20 years.

The oldest recorded goldfish was named Tish and and lived to be 43! Goldfish can live up to be 20+ years if they are cared for properly. Most pet store goldfish just live to be between 15-25 years old.
