Why did the northern barbarians not ever get conquerd by the civilised world, cos I mean the other races always got conquerd and got civilised, how did the northern barbarians (Germanians and Celts) stop ancient impirial powers from conquering them.

The Romans did PLENTY of damage to both cultures.

The only reason it was not so complete as further south is they were becoming too unwieldy to manage properly because the Romans over extended themselves. Kind of like America is today, don'tcha think? Only instead of bringing in mercenaries from all around their countries, America will bring in Mexicans. But they still have bitten off too much.

So it was with the Celts and Germanians. These cultures were crushed and brought into "line" with the Caesarian ideal, but not as thoroughly due to manpower. I advise you do a little studying. Read about Bodeccea and Vercingtorix!
No kid, Rome spread its corruption everywhere.

As other have said, Rome did manage to do a significant amount of conquering of the northern tribes. Scotland, Ireland, and the northern "Germanic territories" might have escaped, but the southern areas were taken over and more or less Romanized.

There's a number of factors that contributed to Rome stopping their push to conquer the "barbarians". It was taxing on the Empire - it cost a lot for the troops, the infrastructure, etc. It rapidly became unpopular to continue, especially after they'd "secured the borders" and captured the tin mines in Britain. Add in the amount of time it took to move troops to trouble spots, and the Empire was starting to reach (or exceed) what it could maintain.

That's when the internal issues started to crop up. Internal politics starting wrecking havok, calling troops back from the border areas, etc. Hard to expand when you're too busy trying to repacify areas that started acting up.

well, in some cases, they did. (when the Roman Empire decided they would take over some of the Germanic tribes) and Ireland/Scotland/Wales were oppressed by Christian English and forced to live under Great Britain for centuries...

now, these groups eventually rebelled and broke away (not necessarily victorious) and later became loosely allied "nation states".

not sure on how correct i am, it's been a while since i've studied that area of history. but i'm pretty sure both groups at one time or another conquered them. also take into account rough terrain, and unfamiliar fighting techniques probably helped aid them in not being conquered... as often...

They weren't "barbarians," that's ignorant. They had their own forms of civilization. Why do you even use the term barbarians anymore?
