If Josh Beckett wanted to hit a batter, HE WOULD. He don't mess around with that! He may be a hot head (oohh la la), but he doesn't have to intentionally hit anyone. I would hate to think that the Tigers would act like little kids and have to "get back" at the Red Sox for that, Georgie!

Hell of a picture!
Georgie,
While I have a ton of respect for your contributions here, I must respectfully disagree.
For one - it was a curveball. If you're gonna skull someone, you bring the fastball. Look at the picture - why is his head moving TOWARDS the plate - I am not saying that he DESERVED to get hit as a result - but if you are TRYING to hit someone, you are going to throw towards where you expect him to move - backwards - which is why ML players go crazy when someone throws behind them - because that is their "safe zone" and it appears more likely that the pitcher is a headhunter when he throws there.
Second, it is Spring Training. Most guys are worried about getting their own stuff together, not about protecting teammates or letting the competitive juices get them going. Nobody from the Red Sox had been hit at that point, so it is not very likely retaliation.
Now how this will play out in the regular season is anyone's guess. Since Jones returned the favor later in the game, it is likely that the issue is more-or-less settled, but I'm sure Ordonez is a little more motivated this year.

Why would he purposely hit somebody with his slowest pitch? It was just a curveball and mags ducked into it because he thought it was a fastball (I remember Manny did that two years ago). I'm sure Beckett will hit people intentionally but I dont think that mags was one of those people. There's no rivalry there and its a spring training game for an occasionally wild pitcher so a couple of mistakes are common.

He really shouldn't have been throwing the ball like that when he didn't have control. I don't think he purposely did it, but I don't think it was completely accidental. He also says that he didn't hit Gary Sheffield, that it hit his bat, even though it was not even close to his bat!
Brandon Inge, Gary Sheffield and Todd Jones said that it is already water under the bridge, but who knows, we will probably have t wait and see, because I could see it either way.
U should read this:

u should also look at the side box with other articles and read the article on Magg's condition.

It wouldn't surprise me if he did it intentionally. It shouldn't surprise anyone because Beckett is an ******, he is immature, and he is out of control. Sooner or later, he will hit the wrong person and then it won't be a good day for Beckett.

Of course not. Beckett just doesnt have good control over his curveball. If he was to do it on purpose he would do it in the regular season, not the preseason. Todd Jones definetley tried to hit JD Drew on purpose though in retaliation to him thinking beckett went after Ordonez.

Georgie, I normally respect your answers, but you are making us Tiger fans look like whiners. Why would Josh Becket hit Mags? They have never been teammates. Mags is only 0-2 with a walk in his career.
It was a breaking ball in spring training that hit him wrong. If it was a fastball behind his head, that would be different.

I bet he did purposely bean him but, there isn't really a way for the Tigers to get back at the Sox. The will dominate the AL this season. Go Sox!

I wouldn't guess that it was on purpose but he was trying to establish the inside and it is spring training. Beckett was probably fortunate that he hit Maggs instead of Sheffield - he may not have lived.
Or should I say, hit Maggs last...

whoa....he is an inside pitcher. If he intended on hitting him he never would have gone at his head. Its the preseason. No pitcher would take that kind of risk before the season even starts
