I got Detention for saying "What the Hell" three times in a row?
Yeah I must have been silly...but anyways can anybody answer my question...I would really appreciate it....Thanks you all for your cooperation. :)

depends on the usage,,, they would say how you had it in connotation that you used it as a cuss word,,, the other way would have used it as a place ,,,, this place is worse then hell,, you would not have gotten in trouble

Depending on the way it is used. If your refering to the place and not intending to insult someone "hell" is not a vulgar word it is simply a noun. If you are using it as "Hell i fought with that for hours" its a swear , Also "Go to hell" is a swear. But "Is there a such place as Hell?" well that is not a swear but simply a question. Mostly it depends on how it is use as to whether or not it is vulgar. It can also be used to describe "It was as hot as hell"

I personally only think of it as objectable if it is used in a personal attack on someone as in "go to hell" which is a pretty bad condemnation if you think about it seriously and in the literal sense. This of course assumes the existence of Hell is real.

I wouldn't call it a swear word, but the way you used it is certainly vulgar and it is disrespectful of the person you said it to.

I think "hell" isnt a swear word. It's just a place people think bad people go to. It might seem rude or inapproprate for skool. So I would just say it at home lol. Or say what the "heck" while around teachers.

people are kinda stupid and overreactionary.

I dont see it as a swear or vulgar. but ya know, if someone told you to stop --- then you shouldve stopped. you probably got detention just cos you didnt listen.

It is mildly inappropriate and of course the language police are always out there, especially if you live in the deep south where it's bible belt Naziism basically!
