Because they are a convenient store they sell items that you want in a hurry without going to the big super markets to get them. They still check your ID but that is the Law, it is more Convenient to get them at the gas station. I don't smoke any more but I got them at the gas station at the grocery store but mainly at the gas station.

For the same reason that guns are sold in a gun shop despite people not been allowed to shoot the owner.

Because there is a time and a place for things and the time and the place you bought that 'thing' doesn't always mean that that's the time/place you should be allowed to use it.

As long as they aren't smoking inside the building they can still make a bundle selling cancer sticks.

That's silly. You can buy ciggy's in alot of places but can't smoke there. You can buy booze in alot of places but can't use them there.

There are all sorts of things you buy somewhere but can't use them there.

Use some common sense.
