In the US, the color code for electrical wiring is white for neutral and black for the hot wire. Red is used when there may be a second hot wire, as in the case of a ceiling fan that also has a light. That way you can control the fan and the light separately. If your fan does not include a light, the white wire must be connected to the white wire in the junction box. The other wire is connected to the black or red wire.

If your smoke detector is blinking rapidly, it has nothing to do with the ceiling fan. Perhaps that is an indication that the battery in the smoke detector needs to be changed soon.

You say you have a red wire coming from the house. Is there also a white one? Usually the hot wire is black, and the neutral wire is white. However, maybe someone used red instead because it powers a fire device.

The rapid blinking should not be caused by the way you have hooked up the fan. Perhaps that smoke alarm is different from the other smoke alarms.
